ISOCURE PROCESS

An Isocure core (also known as a cold box core) is a type of sand core used in metal casting that is made using the cold box process. Unlike shell sand cores, which rely on heat for curing, cold box cores are hardened at room temperature using a gas catalyst.
Isocure (Cold Box) Process:
  1. Sand Mixture: A blend of dry sand and liquid resin binder (phenolic urethane resin) is prepared.
  2. Core Box Filling: The sand mixture is pneumatically blown into a core box.
  3. Curing with Gas Catalyst: Amine gas is introduced into the core box. This gas reacts with the binder, causing rapid curing at room temperature.
  4. Core Removal: Once cured, the core is removed from the core box
Features of Isocure (Cold Box) Cores:
  • Fast Curing Time: The gas catalyst allows for almost instant curing, improving production speed.
  • Good Strength & Durability: Cold box cores are strong and resistant to breakage during handling and pouring.
  • Good Dimensional Accuracy: Produces cores with precise shapes and smooth surfaces.
  • Suitable for High-Volume Production: Often used in automotive, aerospace, and industrial casting due to its efficiency.
